Sudden Oak Death Map of West Marin
A poster depicting the distribution of Sudden Oak Death in West Marin through time was one of 20 interesting and beautiful maps displayed in Point Reyes Station as part of an exhibit of "Marin Maps, Geographic Stories of West Marin," on Saturday, April 22, 2006. The exhibit was a successful collaboration by the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center, the Point Reyes National Seashore Association, and the Tomales Bay Watershed Council.
The Sudden Oak Death Map of West Marin was provided by Maggi Kelly, Karin Tuxen, and Janice Alexander of the California Oak Mortality Task Force.
Several of the map makers who contributed to the show were on hand to answer questions. Because of the size and specialized use of maps, most maps are not seen by the general public. Because of the range of content about Point Reyes, Tomales Bay, and Western Marin, the maps gave a diverse perspective of Marin. Seeing the maps adjacent to each other inspired many comparisons and questions about this area's future and ongoing stewardship.
