Manages the administrative operations of the Nutrition Policy Institute (NPI), a research institute with a staff of approximately 50-60 academic and staff positions funded predominately by grants from large foundations, health care institutions or government agencies. Administrative oversight activities include between 80-90 grants and contracts, human resources management, internal and external communications, complex budget, accounting and payroll oversight, general office management (IT, telecommunications, facilities, data management, travel, leadership team support), and operational strategic planning. This position supervises a team of approximately 4 professional administrative staff members and up to 4 work study/student interns.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced administrative professional to manage and coordinate the daily administrative operations for NPI and of the research office in Berkeley. Operations include: budget, accounting and payroll, grants and contracts management, human resources management, funder report production, internal and external communications, strategic planning, and general office management. Reports to the Director of NPI. Establishes and plans operation team goals, objectives, and activities that support the achievement of NPI's research mission in a cost efficient, timely and customer-service oriented manner. Accountable for making autonomous decisions that result in achieving operational goals without significant cost overruns or delays. Provides development, guidance and recognition to a well-organized and trained staff that maintains good relationships with internal staff and outside partners and funders. Manages timely internal and external communications. Develops and maintains positive relationships with high profile funders, research project managers, department heads, and field leaders. Coordinates with ANR and UC Davis professional staff in HR, IT, contracts and grants, and finance. In collaboration with NPI leadership, assists with setting NPI's annual and long-term goals and objectives. Develops and monitors NPI systems for efficient grant submission and management, project tracking, conference and meeting attendance, and personnel performance evaluation. Provides input into non-technical portions of grant and contract proposals. Oversee the management of undergraduate and graduate student interns, volunteers and paid assistants. Oversee the management of all employment inquiries and hiring processes concerning potential employees.
