2018 Horticulture Internship

Horticulture—Internship Program  Position Number AP18-00

The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) is pleased to offer an exciting internship opportunity funded by the Almond Board of California and the California Dried Plum Board.

This paid internship offers the successful candidate an opportunity to learn about and assist with cutting edge research and education programs focused on sustainable agriculture, integrated pest management, water use efficiency, improved water quality, and innovative practices to minimize environmental impacts while ensuring economic viability of tree crop production. The intern will also participate in educational and outreach efforts to educate farmers, pest control professionals, and the general public regarding scientific findings and improve methodologies of crop production and environmental protection.  Working closely with experienced Cooperative Extension Advisors, the intern will learn about the latest in agricultural practices and technologies pertaining to almonds, dried plums, and other tree crops.  The successful candidate will interact with the individuals and organizations (public and private) that support California agriculture.  This is a unique professional development opportunity.

Position:  Internship with University of California Cooperative Extension

  • 12 Month Internship:  Junior Specialist, fulltime position (40 hours per week) at a monthly rate of $3291. Eligible to receive and accrue University benefits. First date of work anticipated to be  early January 2019

Where:  The position will be located at the UCCE Yuba County office in Yuba City, and work in the Sacramento and/or San Joaquin Valley tree crop region.  Location will be based on successful candidate’s interest and available extension supervisors’ locations.

Qualifications:  Minimum Bachelor’s degree in agriculture sciences, ability to conduct field research, work independently, accomplish team-based research and education programs consistent with the UCCE mission, communicate and extend technical information in an understandable manner, work with people who may have a diversity of views and values, ability and willingness to perform physical work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, literacy in modern computing technologies.
