Position Overview

The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), a statewide program with local development and delivery, is seeking the following UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Advisor.


Location Headquarters:  Placer County, CA

Purpose: The 4-H Youth Development Advisor for volunteer engagement will implement an extension education and applied research program grounded in positive youth development theory and practice to enhance and improve volunteer engagement in the 4-H and other youth development programs in Placer and Nevada Counites. The impacts and outcomes of this work will support the implementation of research-based best practices to expand and enhance volunteer engagement in youth programs.

The 4-H Youth Development Advisor for volunteer engagement will partner and collaborate with youth agencies to expand or incorporate the use of volunteer educators in 4-H, camps, school programs, after school programs and throughout the community. In turn, volunteer educators will be activated to extend and expand the reach of positive youth development experiences for youth in collaboration with subject matter experts on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Healthy Living, Civic Engagement, Leadership Development and College and Career Readiness. In doing so, the 4-H Youth Development Advisor for volunteer engagement will prepare and engage youth serving organizations in utilizing volunteers to deliver programs that help youth develop into healthy, thriving, self-directed, productive citizens.

The advisor will work with and provide a point of connection for families and youth, local youth development professionals, UC ANR advisors, specialists, and relevant program teams to address positive youth development strategies for volunteer development across all 4-H critical and emergent issues, including science literacy, and healthy living.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Required Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a master's degree or other advanced degree in education, youth/child development, human development, volunteer engagement, volunteer development or other related fields is required at the time of appointment.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience in community development and program evaluation
  • Valid driver license.
  • Live within a commutable distance of the position headquarters during period of appointment.
  • A background investigation will be required for the successful candidate, including fingerprinting and a criminal history clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Desired Experience

  • Knowledge, leadership, and research expertise in youth development and volunteer engagement and management.
  • Passion and desire to pursue a career in Cooperative Extension and community development.
  • Experience in successful Cooperative Extension programming or community development,
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, manage teams and implement a research program, including setting measurable goals and objectives.

Salary & Benefits
