The Community Education Specialist (CES) will work with the UC Cooperative Extension Mendocino Forestry Program in collaboration with CAL FIRE to coordinate an outreach and educational program focusing on forest management, research, demonstration, and recreation occurring on Jackson Demonstration State Forest (JDSF) and other forestlands in Mendocino County. Responsibilities include collaborating with JDSF staff, researchers, professionals, and other resource experts on community and public engagement, developing and hosting workshops and outreach events, and creating outreach materials. The goal of this program is to increase awareness of past, current, and planned activities at JDSF and other forestlands in Mendocino County to show the value of demonstration and research for both the local community and wider public audience.
Program delivery methods include a mix of online and in-person formats. The CES will utilize standard practices in analyzing program content and delivery needs and determining effectiveness of current programs. They will also assist in writing materials and help to disseminate information through multiple platforms and help maintain and improve various websites. The CES will need to illustrate a strong ability to work independently and connect their work to both program and project goals.
This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed and ends one year from date of hire with the possibility of extension if funding permits.
The home department is UCCE Mendocino County. While this position normally is based in Ukiah, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements, for applicants living in the State of California, at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.
Pay Scale: $45,200.00/year to $60,900.00/year
